Acrosiphonia sonderi
{Acrosiphonia = tube-topped}

Acrosiphonia sonderi is a green alga. Species in this genus tend to have hooked filamentous branches that clump to form rope-like strands. The above specimens were found in a cobble and sand habitat in the low intertidal of North Beach, Calvert Island in July 2012 (left) and May 2013 (right). Besides one record of A. sonderi on the Pacific coast of Russia, the range for this species, as recorded by Algaebase, is mostly limited to coastlines in the North Sea and both sides of the North Atlantic. Species of this genus hold water well, and can be wrung like a sponge to dry out the thallus. Other Acrosiphonia species found on the Central Coast include Arctic sea moss (A. arcta) and green rope (A. coalita).
