Lepidozia filamentosa
Identification
This species belongs to the liverwort subclass Jungermanniidae, or "leafy liverworts." These liverworts have two lateral rows of flattened, even-sized leaves.
Habitat & Range
The plants above were found growing on a decaying log in a creek gully at the south end of West Beach on Calvert Island. The recorded range for Lepidozia filamentosa in the Pacific Northwest is along the coast from Alaska to Washington; it also occurs in Japan and Korea.
Similar Species
Little-hands liverwort (Lepidozia reptans) appears to be the more common Lepidozia species.
